Welcome to the first Hungerford Club newsletter for all members. It is meant to keep us all abreast of activities that have occurred in the various sections in previous months. There’s also a list of events for the future which we hope you will find useful.
All members should have received a copy via email. If you did not receive your copy please check your spam folder. If it isn’t there then please update the us with your correct email address.
It is with great pleasure that The Hungerford Club can announce the fundraising on The Good Exchange for the defibrillator has been successful with the full amount raised.
The provision of a defibrillator has been discussed and planned for some time. We started the fund raising in early June and the response to our appeal has been fantastic.
Now that we have achieved this important milestone, we can go ahead with the purchase and installation. We will keep everybody informed on progress.
For the next few couple of weeks the bar will have two guest ales.
Hop Father – 3.9%
Brewed by the Why Valley Brewery situated in the heart of Herefordshire. This is a deliciously hoppy session I.P.A. featuring Mosaic, Summit, Cascade, Pilot and Azacca hops which join forces to ‘Hopfather’ some seriously hoppy clout. This session IPA also boasts a new vibrant gold colour together with subtle malt overtones, zesty fruit flavours and a refreshingly crisp finish.
Lord Marples – 4.0%
A surprisingly smooth bitter with light toffee and caramel notes. Lord Marples was the first ever Thornbridge beer! Brewed in 2005 at the Hall Brewery. It pours an attractive mahogany, bringing forth flavours of honey and caramel with just a light bitterness in the finish to keep it balanced. It’s named after Mr Marples, a former owner of Thornbridge Hall, who enjoyed using the title of Lord while never quite achieving it officially!
The Hungerford Club has decided to purchase and install a potentially life-saving defibrillator to be mounted on the outside wall of the Club house, near the front door.
It will be mounted on the outside wall of the clubhouse within a locked/coded cabinet and available for anyone to use 24 hours a day
Whilst it is being provided for club members, it is available to anyone in the Croft who needs it.
The cabinet code can be obtained by dialling 999. The unit is fully automatic and has full instructions. It is available for all ages with paediatric pads included.
We have placed a fund raising application on The Good Exchange to raise the money for this device and invite all members to contribute, (you can do so anonymously if wished). Please click here to access the funding page and follow the instructions. Thank you for your generosity and support.
The Tennis Section of the Hungerford Club is excited to be holding a members day on Saturday 29th May (the Bank Holiday Weekend). Although it is being organised by the Tennis Section, it is very informal and all Hungerford Club members who would like to take part are welcome.
Lockdown restrictions were eased from 17th May, however by law we will still be restricted to the ‘Rule of 30’ for post-play social/catering (the ‘Rule of 30’ will also apply to group tennis play from the 17th). The day will therefore take the form of two separate Club Play slots from 10am-1pm (Club Play finishing from around 12pm, with food and drink available at the Hungerford Club from around 12pm), and 4pm-7pm (food and drink from 6pm). Tennis and post tennis numbers will need to be managed carefully so that we can remain within the tennis and social gathering limits.
The Hungerford Club is pleased to announce that it will re-open on the following dates.
Sportsground
Tennis will open on the 29th March, subject to restrictions as issued via the LTA and already circulated to tennis section members.
The Bowls Green will reopen on Saturday 17th April.
The Club House
The Club House will re-open on Wednesday 14th April for outdoor table service to members only. Social distancing rules still apply.
At present it has been decided to open as below, but subject to weather conditions, as it may be decided not to serve outdoors during inclement weather. Indoor service is not permitted by Government restrictions.
