The Hungerford Bowls Club held its annual prize giving dinner on Friday 17th October at the Royal British Legion, Hungerford.

Hungerford Bowls Club members and their families had a lovely meal followed by a quiz and a raffle. The evening finished as the Bowling Club President Alan Bartter presented the trophies for the annual competitions run by the club.

As of 12 midday on Tuesday 21st October 2025 nominations are now closed for the role of trustee.

There are 2 vacancies for which nominations were requested.

Those appointed as a Trustee must reside within 10 miles of the Club premises, anyone who moves away will be regarded as resigned from their appointment.

23rd September 2025Notice of the A.G.M. posted on the noticeboard in the bar. Members may propose to move a resolution at the A.G.M.
7th October 2025Last day that members may give notice they wish to move a resolution at the A.G.M.

14th October 2025Agreed wording of members’ resolutions on the notice board in the bar.

A big thank you to Debbie and her team and all of the members who made the Beer Festival such a success.  It was so successful that we had to close on the bar on Tuesday morning because we had sold out of everything!

A huge amount of planning goes in to make sure we have the beers, ciders, food, and the live music for this three day event. The bespoke printing on the keep-or-return cups and the aprons was a great idea and the addition of a Pimms and Prosecco bar broadened the appeal.

On the Saturday of the Hungerford Club beer festival the club Steward, Debbie Hutchins, was presented with the Best Social Club in West Berkshire Award by a representative from CAMRA. This is a lovely accolade and recognises all the hard work Debbie does selling different real ales and keeping them in tip top condition.

This is the sixth year that the club has won the Club of the year award.

On Sunday, 24th August, the men’s team travelled to Newbury Bowls Club for the 2nd leg of the competition for the Godwin Cup.

After the 1st leg, played at home, Hungerford were trailing by 4 shots but after a stunning comeback they won the 2nd leg by 80 shots to 47 so won by 33 shots overall.

Club President Alan Bartter received the trophy from Newbury Captain Mike Collins. The Godwin Cup is played for every year with one match at home and one away at Newbury.

Hungerford President Mr Alan Bartter accepted the R & J Broad Trophy from Nina Leighton St Mary Bourne’s Secretary - Sunday 17th August 2025

On Sunday 17th August 18 players from Hungerford Bowls Club travelled to St Mary Bourne Bowls Club to compete for the R & J Broad Trophy. The trophy is competed for each year by Hungerford and St. Mary Bourne Bowls clubs and next year the match will be hosted by Hungerford.

We played 18 ends in very sunny and hot weather and after a lovely afternoon we ended the match winning by 4 shots. Hungerford had 95 shots overall and St Mary Bourne 91.

Hungerford President Mr Alan Bartter accepted the trophy from Nina Leighton St Mary Bourne’s Secretary.

After the game we enjoyed a lovely tea and welcome drink with all the players.

Hungerford Club Beer Festival 2025

Hungerford Club Beer Festival - Sat 23rd Sept 2025 to Mon 25th Sept 2025. Food served from noon to 6pm. Free entry - all welcome.

The Hungerford Beer Festival 2024 will be held over the August Bank Holiday 2025 from 12 until 6pm each day.

There are a selection of 13 beers, some local and some from further afield. Also 3 ciders.

The BBQ will be serving food for those who may wish to have something to eat.

Music every day at the Hungerford Beer Festival 2025

Each day there will be live music to enjoy.

  • Beachcomer (Indie) – Saturday 23rd – 2:30pm start
  • The Station (Indie & Rock) – Saturday 23rd – 4pm start
  • Ridgeway Country(Country) – Sunday24th – 1pm start
  • Stripped (Covers) – Sunday 24th – 4pm start
  • The Rock Choir – Monday 25th – 1pm start
  • Micky Kemp (Covers) – Monday 25th – 3:30 start
